1. Stockholm, Sweden

Start your trip in Sweden’s attractive capital, which mixes picture-book looks with elegant modernity. Stockholm is spread across 14 islands, but it’s surprisingly easy to get around via bridges, ferries, and the Tunnelbana metro system.

 

  • Explore the winding cobblestone streets of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s old town.
  • Take in an exhibition at Fotografiska, then head to the café for fika and fine views.
  • Visit Skansen, an open-air museum, and stroll through centuries of Swedish history.

Take the Berlin Night Express from Malmö, which runs from mid-June until mid-August. Reservations are mandatory, but Eurail Pass holders get a discount. Alternatively, head down to Berlin via Copenhagen and Hamburg and add a few more stops to your trip!
