Railjet

Railjet is one of the most modern and luxurious trains in Europe. It operates mainly in Austria, with international connections to Germany, Switzerland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The Railjet trains travel at 230 km/h, taking you from Vienna to Budapest in only 2,5 hours. They offer maximum comfort, such as ergonomic seats, free WiFi, a great selection of food, and a cinema corner to keep children entertained along the way.

 

Railjet routes

Railjet trains run throughout Austria and international routes link major Austrian cities with Budapest (Hungary), Prague (Czech Republic), Munich (Germany), and Zurich (Switzerland). Railjet travels from Budapest to Vienna in no more than 2.5 hours and can transport you from Munich via Austria to the heart of the Hungarian capital, Budapest in only 7 hours.

Railjet trains operate on the following domestic and international routes:

  • Vienna – Linz – Salzburg – Innsbruck – Bregenz
  • Vienna – Bruck ad Mur – Graz
  • Vienna – Bruck ad Mur – Klagenfurt – Villach – Lienz
  • Zurich – Innsbruck – Salzburg – Linz – Vienna – Budapest/Bratislava
  • Graz – Vienna – Breclav – Brno – Prague
  • Vienna – Bruck ad Mur – Klagenfurt – Villach – Venice
  • Munich – Salzburg – Linz – Vienna – Budapest
  • Munich – Innsbruck – Verona/Bologna/Venice
  • Vienna – Linz – Salzburg – Innsbruck – Bregenz – Ulm – Stuttgart – Frankfurt

 

Please note: Reservations mandatory on all trains to/from Germany from June 1st till September 1st

 

 

Reservations

 

Reservations on the Railjet high-speed trains are mostly optional. When traveling to or from Italy, a reservation is mandatory. This is also the case for journeys within Hungary.

How to make reservations for trains in Austria:

 

Eurail reservation self-service system

When calling, you will hear a menu in German. Select extension "1" for train information and bookings. This call center can make reservations for the majority of European high-speed and night trains.

 

The booking center can deliver your reservations to any country you prefer without charging you booking costs. The delivery cost is €5. You can also pick up your reservations at main Austrian train stations. Just take your order number to a ticket office in the station.

ÖBB

Book reservations for Austrian domestic trains and international (night) trains that arrive/depart in Austria at the website of ÖBB:

  • Choose your route and click on 'One-way tickets and day tickets' in the results.
  • Before you pick your train, go to the top right corner and click on 'Who is going?'. Here, click on 'Add discount' and scroll down or search for 'Interrail/Eurail – Globalpass', select it and click confirm.
  • Now you can select the train you want to take and you will immediately see the Pass Holder reservation fee you have to pay.
  • Go through the booking process and finalise your reservation. Please note that reservations for some routes can only be printed at an ÖBB self-service machine or helpdesk in Austria.
  • Many seat reservations can also be made without selecting the ‘Globalpass’ tariff:
  • Simply select ‘Seat reservation only (no ticket)’ under ‘Find Services’ and proceed with the usual steps.

 

Reservation fees:

  • 2nd class: €3
  • 1st class: €3
  • Business Class upgrade: €15
  • Reservation is recommended

 

On the following routes into Italy, passengers pay a special fare:

-      Munich – Innsbruck – Bolzano – Verona – Bologna/Rimini/Venice

-      Vienna – Salzburg – Innsbruck – Bolzano

-      Vienna – Klagenfurt – Villach – Udine – Venice

  • 1st class: €15 (including supplement)
  • 2nd class: €10 (including supplement)
  • Business Class upgrade: €30(including supplement)
  • Reservations are optional
  • Mandatory supplement if you are travelling to/from/within Italy. 
  • A supplement can be bought on the train for an additional fee, costing another €5

Facilities may differ per train and route. All Railjet services offer powers sockets at all seats for mobiles and laptops and free WiFi. There are no bike carriages on Railjet trains. Railjet offers special equipment and facilities to passengers with limited mobility.
